We're delighted to announce that for the third year, GMB will be running our Durham Miners' Gala Political School.
On this page you can let us know that you'd like to come along. Filling in the form doesn't guarantee a place, though. We need to make sure we have a good spread of members from across GMB regions so let us know here that you're interested and we'll get in touch as soon as we have final details.
'What's on the course?', we hear you ask...
Part 1 (for people who didn't attend last year)
- The 'big ideas' in politics and the economy - we break those ideas down and look at what all the big fancy words actually mean for us.
- The history of GMB and our political involvement.
- How the big ideas played out in the Miners' Strike and what that strike meant for trade unionism
Part 2 (for those who did attend last year)
There will be a selection of options and we'll pick the most popular. These options are currently planned to include: media training (how to talk about TU issues on camera); public speaking training; the economy in more depth with the New Economics Foundation; how mobilise politically in your branch, but this will be a small course so let us know your ideas if you'd like to explore something different.
When: Afternoon of July 7th through to the actual Gala on Saturday July 9th, no overnight on the 9th.
Where: Durham, staying at Hatfield College at Durham University.
Funding: Travel, accommodation and meals will be provided.
